Bruins on a streak in run-up to season

Roger Varley

With just a week before their first game of the 2025-26 season, the Uxbridge Bruins appear ready to take on all comers following a successful series of pre-season exhibition games.

In nine games, the Bruins won six, lost two and tied one. That included winning the annual tournament hosted by the Alliston Hornets. The wins included downing their arch-rivals, the Port Perry LumberJacks,4-3 as well as the powerhouse Clarington Eagles, 2-0. However, one of the losses was also against the Eagles.

In total, the Bruins scored 37 goals during those games, while allowing 22.

A week from tonight (Thursday, Sept. 18), the Bruins face off against the Eagles in Clarington and return the following night for their first home game, hosting the Little Britain Merchants. In a busy first weekend, the Bruins then travel down Reach Street on Sunday, Sept. 21 to take on the LumberJacks.

Fans will see a whole new look when they take in the first home game. All the boards on Pad 2 have been replaced. Some of them dated back to 1997 and players put holes in the boards two or three times last season. Most of the glass surrounding the ice surface has been raised by two feet. Doors have been installed to allow for access to the penalty boxes from the players' benches. There is also a lot of black: the tops of the boards are black, all the spectator seating has been painted black and the office doors on the second level are black, The kick plates at the bottom of the boards have been painted a gold colour to match the colours of the Bruins and the USS Uxbridge Tigers.

Fans will also see a new look for the Bruins, who have been recruiting players throughout the summer.
