Bruins have a (mostly) winning holiday season

Since the Cosmos last published, the Uxbridge Bruins have played six games over the Christmas and New Years periods, winning five games and losing one. As a result, the Bruins increased their lead atop the PJHL's Orr Division to eight points over the Georgina Ice on the strength of 25 wins and five losses. In the midst of that run, Bruins forward Jordan Fitger had a game to remember.

The run began on Dec. 19 when the Bruins hosted the Little Britain Merchants and edged the visitors 3-1.

The following day in Schomberg, Fitger became a one-man scoring machine, putting the puck in the net four times as the Bruins downed the Cougars 5-4. The only goal in the first period came just 22 seconds into the game when Schomberg scored. Trent Nobes evened the score early in the second period and then Fitger took over. He scored two goals in the second and two in the third, including the winning goal.

A week later, Uxbridge faced Little Britain again and came away with a 5-2 victory. Then, on New Year's Eve, the local lads travelled to Georgina and doubled the Ice 6-3.

On Jan. 2, the Bruins saw their five-game winning streak come to an end when the Clarington Eagles visited the arena and left with a 4-2 win. The Eagles scored two goals in the first period, which saw a lacklustre offence by the Bruins. Their forays into the Clarington zone were half-hearted at best. Tyson Lotton finally scored the Bruins' first goal with 20 seconds remaining in the second period. The Eagles added two more in the third, including a power-play goal, before Tucker Roberts scored.

Two days later, the Bruins went to the Eagles' nest and turned the tables, defeating Clarington 3-2.

The Bruins return to action tomorrow (Friday) night at the arena when they host the Cougars at 7:45 p.m. They then have a week to rest before playing host to the Caledon Golden Hawks.
