Bruins are back on winning track

Earlier this month, the Uxbridge Bruins allowed the Schomberg Cougars to score four goals in a Bruins' 6-4 win, only the second time this season that the Bruins have allowed four goals. The following night, the Georgina Ice came to town and shut out the Bruins 3-0, giving the local lads their first loss of the season. Those two games appear to have lit a fire under the Bruins.
On Friday at the arena, the Bruins showed the Cougars the earlier game had been a fluke by crushing Schomberg 11-1, and on Sunday they visited the Caledon Golden Hawks to post a 5-0 victory.
In Friday's joust, the game was over after just a couple of minutes, although no one knew it at the time. The Bruins scored a goal less than two-and-a-half minutes after the opening whistle and added another 16 seconds later. That led to Schomberg changing goalies. That tactic didn't work as the Bruins scored three more before the period ended, including a power-play marker.
In the second period, with the Cougars putting the original goalie back between the pipes, the Cougars spoiled goalie Robbie DiMaria's chance at a shutout with a goal late in the stanza. The Bruins replied with their sixth goal 30 seconds later.
The Bruins scored five more goals in the third period.
All in all, 13 Bruins shared in the scoring, with Ryan Shier picking up five points, Tyson Lotton earning four points and Tucker Roberts, Cameron Meek, Tanner Ryan and Colin Glecoff collecting three each.
Such was Uxbridge's attack that while DiMaria faced only 21 shots on goal, the Bruins unleashed 61 on the Schomberg net.
The Cosmos named Shier as the Bruins player of the game and selected Samuel Lamy for the Cougars.
In Caledon on Sunday, the Bruins scored two goals midway through the first period, courtesy of Shier and Luke Kemp, newly returned to the Bruins from his stint in Listowel. Shier produced the only goal of the second period and Evan Gilbert and Glecoff added two more in the third, Gilbert's coming on a power play.
Kevin Halloran, in the net for the Bruins, faced only 10 shots on goal, while his teammates hammered the Caledon goalie with 46.
The Bruins record now stands at 16 wins and one loss, putting them firmly in first place in the PJHL's Orr Division.
Tomorrow (Friday), the Bruins will be seeking revenge when they host the Georgina Ice again at 7:45 p.m.
