Brewery offers a different kind of beer run

Roger Varley, Local Journalism Initiative Reporter

Every Thursday evening, a bunch of customers gather at the Second Wedge Brewing Co. not to quaff pints, but to run anywhere between five to seven kilometres.

The runs, organized by Joanne Richter and Meahgan O'Hara about 18 months ago, are open to anyone who wants to take part in a social activity.

Richter, who started recreational running about 15 years ago, said about 100 people signed up for the drop-in event, although not that many run every Thursday night. She said the run is open to all ages and a number of families come to participate together.

In the summer, the runners head out of the brewery at 7 p.m. and run north towards the Fields of Uxbridge. In the winter (the run goes all year round) the participants stick to the well-lit streets around the downtown area.

At the end of the run, it's back to the Second Wedge for refreshment.

Anyone wishing to join, or to find out more information, can contact Richter at the Second Wedge at 905-852-3232.
